Science technician Susie Preece from Wigmore High School ran the first Technicians course at Earl Mortimer College on Thursday 5th March.
Evidence shows that practical work has a positive impact on student attainment. This course aimed to develop understanding of the importance of practical work in the classroom and its impact on learning.
Technicians at all stages of their careers continue to broaden the role they perform. In many cases this now includes supporting teachers and students directly with practical work, for example assisting teachers with individuals in class practicals, demonstrations or helping students with project work.
This course was developed for technicians who were interested in exploring the possibilities of undertaking this role. The course included sessions on what makes good practical work, working effectively with teachers and students, assisting with practical project work, managing small group work and individuals with practical activities.
We will be running more courses, the next one being on the 3rd June so look out for it!
